SAN ANGELO, TEXAS— Melvis Hawkins (So., RB, Hale Center, Texas/Hale Center HS) covered 33 yards over two plays, scoring a three-yard touchdown late in the fourth quarter, to give the Eastern New Mexico University football team (1-1) a four-point lead late in the fourth quarter of Saturday night’s Lone Star Conference crossover game at Angelo State (1-0). The Rams immediately responded with a 54-yard scoring play, snatching a 41-38 victory from the Greyhounds at San Angelo Stadium.
CANYON, TEXAS — With the fifth set knotted at eight-all, the Eastern New Mexico University volleyball team (1-3) took the lead for good on a service error, followed by a pair of Amber Durand (So., OH, Onalaska, Wash./Onalaska HS/Columbia Basin) service aces on the way to a 3-2 (25-21, 26-24, 25-27, 21-25, 15-13) win over Western State College (2-1), Saturday morning at the BritKare Lady Buff Classic, hosted by West Texas A&M.
ALAMOSA, COLO.— Freshman midfielder Eishu Kanemitsu (Tokyo, Japan/Emily Carr Secondary) broke a scoreless tie 22:09 into the opening period of the Eastern New Mexico University men soccer team’s (1-0) season opener at Adams State (0-1), en-route to a 6-0 victory at Murphy Field. The win marked the Hounds second shutout in a season opener and the first since a 2-0 win at Colorado Christian on August 24, 2006.
