BLACKWATER DRAW, N.M. — After enduring more than two hours in weather delays, the Eastern New Mexico University football team (1-0) used quarterback Wesley Wood’s (So., Muleshoe, Texas/Muleshoe HS) 391 passing yards and seven touchdown performance to defeat the Crimson Storm of Southern Nazarene (0-1) by a 59-21 score, Saturday night at Greyhound Stadium. Matt Kalisch (Sr., DE, Harker Heights, Texas/Harker Heights HS/NMMI) paced a stingy defense which shut out SNU in the second half and allowed just two third-down conversions over the final 30 minutes of play.
PORTALES, N.M.— After a standout 2009-10 season by the athletic teams at Eastern New Mexico University, Nathan Uland (Jr., LB, Denton, Texas/Ryan HS) from the Greyhound football team has been selected as the Greatest Greyhound, while Samantha Lawrence (Sr., F, Roswell, N.M./Goddard HS) was chosen as the Greatest Zia. Players are nominated for the awards by head coaches and voted on by the athletic staff and coaches.
PORTALES, N.M.— The Eastern New Mexico University men’s cross-country team is one week away from opening their 2010 season in Wichita Falls, Texas, at the Midwestern State Invitational, but they will have a little extra motivation on the way there. The Greyhounds enter the season ranked fifth in the South Central Region and are second in the poll among Lone Star Conference teams.
PORTALES, N.M.— Like many sports information directors, Mike Slinker’s work was more well known than he was. From 1974-1982, he made huge strides for the Eastern New Mexico University athletic department. On Saturday, Slinker’s service will be recognized, as he will be inducted into the ENMU Athletic Hall of Honor that he helped to create. Tickets for the Hall of Honors banquet and induction ceremonies can be purchased for $15, by contacting Norma Stroik in the office of athletics in Greyhound Arena.
PORTALES, N.M — Eastern New Mexico University cross country coach Eric Boll has announced the addition of 11 student athletes to compete for the Greyhounds and Zias in the upcoming season. The class is extremely talented and comes with high expectations, after the Hounds were picked third in the preseason poll, while the Zias placed seventh at last year’s conference meet.
