Gridiron Hounds Fall to Javelinas Despite Fourth-Quarter Rally

Saturday, October 29, 2016

KINGSVILLE, TEXAS — Facing a 28-13 fourth-quarter deficit, the Eastern New Mexico University football team (5-4; LSC 4-3) used two touchdown catches from Larry Baker-Bruce to pull even in Saturday night's Lone Star Conference showdown at Texas A&M-Kingsville. The Javelinas (6-3; LSC 4-3) scored the final 13 points of the game to hand ENMU a 41-28 setback at Javelinas Stadium.

The Greyhounds will host Oklahoma Panhandle State next Saturday. The start of the home finale has been moved to 3 p.m. MT.

The loss snapped Eastern's four-game win streak in the series. Eastern was looking for its second straight road victory over Texas A&M-Kingsville, after a 31-0 win in the 2014 season. The 2014 win marked the only time the Javelinas had been shutout at home since the 1983 season.

Facing a 28-13 lead after Myles Carr tossed his third touchdown pass of the day, the Hounds immediately responded. Wyatt Strand found Baker-Bruce twice on the ensuing drive and took advantage of a free play on a Javelina penalty to connect on a 68-yard touchdown pass. After the Greyhound defense forced a three-and-out, Strand again found Baker-Bruce from 37-yards out for their second touchdown connection of the quarter. The two connected again right after the touchdown, for the game-tying two-point conversion.

The Javelinas quickly responded, and took the lead for good, 34-28, on a one-yard plunge from Greg Pitre. After a turnover, Texas A&M-Kingsville added another score and held on for the win.

First Quarter
The Greyhounds took advantage of a bad snap on a punt attempts, and countered with a six-play drive. ENMU seized a 7-0 lead on Kamal Cass' one-yard plunge with 48 seconds left in the half.

Second Quarter
The Javelinas tied the game on a 24-yard run from Luis Lopez and took a 14-7 halftime lead on a three-yard pass from Carr.

Third Quarter
Bailey Hale booted a 20-yard field goal to cut into the deficit, but after an exchange of punts, TAMUK's Jordan Thomas hauled in a 37-yard touchdown reception.

Fourth Quarter
Prior to Eastern tying the game, Hale had a 38-yard field goal, while Carr tossed a short touchdown pass to give the Javelinas a 28-13 lead.
