PORTALES, N.M. — With the fall season coming to a close, the Eastern New Mexico University rodeo teams made sure to conclude the portion of their schedule in memorable fashion. At Texas Tech,
Tierra Gray's first-place finish in the breakaway roping paced the women's team to a first-place finish, while Jacob Lewis' winning performance in the bronc riding led the men's team to a second-place finish.
The women's team compiled 345 points and was followed by runner-up Tarleton State with 285 points. Weatherford College finished third, with 170 points.
Gray finished second in the short round to finish with a time of 4.2 on two in the breakaway roping. Kacy Clark split sixth in the first go.
Tawny Barry placed third in the goat tying, while
Celie Vick finished fifth.
The men's team registered their best overall finish in several years and compiled 310 points. Tarleton State won the rodeo with 390 points.
Lewis swept through the bronc riding, with first-place finishes in the first round, short round and average.
After a sixth-place performance in the first round,
Cooper Brott and
Levi Lord won the short round and average in the team roping.
