PORTALES, N.M. — Facing an 11-point deficit to Fort Lewis (2-0) with just 1:09 left, the Eastern New Mexico University women's basketball team (1-1) closed on a 9-2 run to close within three points, before falling 73-69 to the SkyHawks.
Johna McClelland and
Amari Dennis each scored 13 points for the Hounds in the finale of the ENMU Women's Regional Challenge.
Getting off to a Good Start
- McClelland, Dennis, and Eliza Martinez all hit three-point baskets in the opening 4:11 of play, as the Hounds charged to an 11-6 lead
- Although Fort Lewis battled back to pull even at 15, ENMU responded with an 11-3 run, to seize a 26-18 advantage on back-to-back McClelland jumpers at the 7:51 mark of the second quarter
Turning Point
- After that Greyhound run, Fort Lewis responded with a 17-5 surge to end the half with a 35-31 lead. The SkyHawks claimed their first lead, 33-31 on a Brian Clah trey with 1:28 left in the period
- The Hounds closed within four points twice, before closing to within three on a fast break from Dennis with 20 seconds left
In the Numbers
- Kassandra Harris just missed her second straight double double and finished with 10 points and eight rebounds
- Daeshi McCants added 12 points and six boards
- Dasia Johnson dished out seven assists, while Mikaehla Connor had six assists and five points
- Fort Lewis held a 76.5-62.5 edge at the free throw line
- The Hounds enjoyed a 9-2 lead in fast break points and a 12-4 lead in points off turnovers
- Kaitlyn Romero paced FLC with 15 points and four assists

The Eastern New Mexico University women's basketball team will return to action on Friday, November 18, at Wayland Baptist. The contest is scheduled to tip off at 5 p.m. MT.
