COMMERCE, TEXAS — Junior goalkeeper
Marissa Torres made a season-high 13 saves for the Eastern New Mexico University women's soccer team in Thursday's Lone Star Conference tournament match against third-seeded Midwestern State. She made eight saves in the first half to keep the game scoreless, but the Mustangs scored three goals in the second half, to hand the Hounds a 3-0 defeat at Lion Field.
Torres' 13 saves tied for the fifth-most in team history and was the most by an ENMU player since Sierra Cardenas had 13 against Dixie State on August 30, 2008.
Midwestern State's Avery Lewis broke the scoreless tie after firing a shot across the Greyhound goal, into the left side, just 55 seconds into the second half. Torres continued to keep Eastern in the game, and the Hounds went on the attack, but MSU's Courtney Burnette stopped a potential game-tying shot from Galdean at the 67:55 mark. After another two Torres saves, Burnette stopped a shot from Sievers.
Eastern managed four shots on goal in the contest, with
Jenna Sievers,
Tori Hendrickson,
Anniah Galdean, and
Baylee Hampton having one each.
With the setback, the Eastern New Mexico University women's soccer team has concluded its season.
