PORTALES, N.M. — Prior to the start of the Lone Star Conference championship tournament, the league office released its postseason awards for women's soccer at a Wednesday-night banquet. Eastern New Mexico University was well represented with the selection of
Tori Hendrickson and
Marissa Torres as all-conference performers.
With the selection of the duo, Eastern has received five All-LSC selections under Head Coach
Omar Morales over the last three seasons. Last year,
Danielle Caro and
Melissa Moxley both earned second-team honors. The team has received multiple selections to the all-conference teams, each year since the 2011 season.
For her defensive play, Hendrickson garnered Second Team All-LSC laurels. Her play has helped limit the opposition to a 1.68 goals against average for the season.
Hendrickson scored three goals this year, which included the game-winning goal on a penalty kick at Texas Woman's University. She also scored twice in a victory over University of the Southwest, which saw the team set a new single-goal record for goals scored. For her career, Hendrickson has netted five goals for the Greyhounds and dished out a pair of assists.
In her first season at Eastern,
Marissa Torres earned Honorable Mention All-LSC honors. She is the first goalkeeper to earn LSC postseason honors since Fabienne Wilson was chosen as the league's Newcomer of the Year after the 2013 season. Torres posted a .780 save percentage with a 1.73 goals against average. She also had shutouts against Western State and Texas Woman's. Her 103 saves marks the fourth time in program history a goalkeeper passed the century mark.
The Eastern New Mexico University women's soccer team will open play in the LSC tournament this afternoon against Midwestern State. The contest will be held in Commerce Texas, with a 4 p.m. MT start.
