PORTALES, NM — With their best start in a quarter century, the Eastern New Mexico University women's basketball team (14-3; LSC 10-0) is receiving plenty of national recognition. After receiving votes in the Women's Basketball Division II Media Poll sponsored by D2SIDA, the Greyhounds have vaulted to 17th in the nation. Eastern also received votes in the WBCA poll for the second straight week.

"It's definitely exciting and rewarding for our kids," ENMU Head Women's Basketball Coach Josh Prock said. "We still have a lot of work to do and hopefully we continue the road we're on."

The Greyhounds ranking in the media poll marks the first time the team has been in the top-25 of the poll's three-year existence. ENMU is joined by Angelo State (T-23) from the Lone Star Conference in the rankings. After receiving two votes in last week's WBCA poll, the Hounds are now the top team in the receiving votes section, with 42, this week.

With a 14-3 record, the Greyhounds are off to their best start since they opened 18-2, in the 1992-93 season. Saturday's win over the Rambelles gave them their first-ever 10-0 start to LSC play in program history and the first seven-game win streak since the 2003-04 season.

This week, the Hounds open the second half of LSC play, and look to continue their momentum. With wins in 13 of their last 14 contests, the ENMU will open a two-game home stand on Thursday. At 5:30 p.m. MST, the Greyhounds will tip off against rival West Texas A&M. A Saturday contest against University of Texas of the Permian Basin will follow, on Saturday at 2 p.m.
