PORTALES, NM —The Eastern New Mexico University women's basketball team has received plenty of recognition in both regional and national polls for their outstanding 2016-17 season. On Wednesday, the NCAA released their first edition of the Division II Regional polls, and had the Greyhounds ranked second in the South Central Region.

"We are very thankful to be where we are in the region," Head Coach Josh Prock said. "A lot of work still to do but these young ladies have played well this year and continue to show their toughness.  Looking forward to the rest of the year."

Eastern currently sits atop the Lone Star Conference standings and trails only once-beaten Colorado State Pueblo in the regional poll. The Hounds are joined by fellow LSC competitors Angelo State (3rd), West Texas A&M (4th) and Texas A&M-Commerce (6th) in the poll.

The Greyhounds already have posted their most wins in a season (18) since going 23-5 in the 1992-93 season. The squad's 14 conference wins also eclipsed the previous program best of 12, which had been accomplished in two other seasons. Eastern's 10 home victories are the most since going 10-4 at Greyhound Arena in the 2006-07 season.

The Eastern New Mexico University women's basketball team will return to action tomorrow, to visit Midwestern State. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. MST.
