Szych and Gryschka Post Qualifying Marks at New Mexico Collegiate Classic

ALBUQUERQUE, NM — The Eastern New Mexico University indoor track & field teams returned to Albuquerque for the third time this season, and faced stiff competition from some of the finest NCAA Division I and II teams in the region at the University of New Mexico Collegiate Classic. Klaudia Szych and Melina Gryschka posted qualifying marks for the NCAA Division II Championships in the 800-meter and one-mile runs, respectively. The men's 4x400 relay team narrowly missed qualifying for the championship event as well.

Szych was the runner-up in the women's 800m, and crossed the finish line at the 2:12.13 mark. She finished just behind Chloe Anderson (2:11.50). Eastern's Gryschka came in fourth in the event with a time of 2:15.29. Gryschka also took third in the one-mile run, with a time of 4:57.48.

The Greyhound quartet of Avery Rasher, Augustus Swanson, Ivar Moinat, and Marcus Parker placed 4th in the third section of the men's 4x400 relay. The quartet finished the event with a time of 3:18.81.

Parker also placed eighth in the semifinals of the men's 60m dash, with a time of 6.96. Julian Coronado placed second in the second section of the 200m dash with a time of 22.03, while Rasher was fourth in section three.

Swanson continued his strong run of performances with a runner-up finish in the third section of the 400m, while Rasher placed third in the heat. Swanson also took first in his section of the 600m run, with a time of 1:22.25. Marcus Skalecki had a strong showing in the one-mile run and was first in section three, with a time of 4:29.44.

Dominique Zamora performed well for the Hounds in both the 60m and 200m dashes. She was fourth in the first heat of the 60m, with a time of 7.92.  Zamora followed with a fourth-place finish in the 10th section of the 200m. Brooke Walker took fifth in the second section of the women's 600m run, with a time of 1:43.75.

The Eastern New Mexico University indoor track & field teams will return to action in two weeks, for the Lone Star Conference Championships. The event will be hosted by Adams State in Alamosa, Colo., and begin on Saturday, February 18th.
