PORTALES, NM — Eastern New Mexico University Women's Soccer Coach
Omar Morales has announced the addition of four more players elevate the Greyhound program in the upcoming season. Victoria Nunez (Borger, Texas/Borger HS), Keyara Zuniga (Sahuarita, Ariz./Walden Grove HS), Hayden Zuniga (Sahuarita, Ariz./Walden Grove HS), and Joslynn Carillo (Fort Worth, Texas/W.E. Boswell HS) should be impact players for the Greyhounds in the near future.
"We are excited about all of our signees," Morales said. "We not only looked to bring good solid soccer players but young ladies that fit our idea of a family member. Our girls spend so much time with each other, so we try to create a family environment within our program and all of these girls will not only do great on the field, but will be good ambassadors for Eastern New Mexico and our community."
Carillo tallied 16 goals and 21 assists at W.E. Boswell High School. She was a two-time all-district selection and made all-region as a sophomore. A versatile athlete, Carillo also qualified for track & field regionals as a member of the school's 4x200-relay team. She should bring plenty of leadership and big-game experience to Eastern, after playing club soccer since age three. Carrillo's teams competed in tournaments across the country, which included The North Texas President's Cup, Germantown Classic, and the Orange Classic.
"Joslynn is a quick and dynamic player that will help our team out wide," Morales said. "She loves the game and has fun playing it all the time. She will bring speed and enthusiasm to our program."
Keyara Zuniga was a four-year starter for Walden Grove High School, which included a state championship team in the 2015 season. She should add a wealth of experience to the roster, after leading her team to a pair of regional crowns in back-to-back seasons. Zuniga has received awards for her play every season at WGHS.
"Keyara is a player that loves to compete!" Morales said. "Not only is she a good soccer player all around but she hates to lose and is extremely passionate about the game. She will bring that passion and competitiveness to our program and help continue to grow our vision for Greyhound women's soccer."
Hayden Zuniga will join her sister on the Greyhound roster, who she has teamed with on the pitch for 13 years. A highly decorated player from Walden Grove High School, she led the squad to a state title in the 2015 season. Both Hayden and Keyara served as team captains at WGHS. She also played club soccer since the age of 17 years old.
"Hayden, just like her twin sister Keyara is a player that loves to compete and is extremely passionate about the game," Morales said. "Hayden will bring the athleticism and knowledge of the game to our program and help it reach new heights just like her sister."
Victoria Nunez joins the Hounds after she led the Borger High School soccer team to the playoffs for four consecutive seasons. For her efforts, Nunez was rewarded with a first-team all-district selection. She played club soccer since 2009 and currently plays in the Division 1, Plano League for the High Plains Drifters Club from nearby Amarillo. Nunez was chosen to be part of the North Texas Olympic Development Program (ODP) 98 girls' team and participated in the Regional tryouts in Alabama. She spent time in Canada playing soccer in the Coupe de Laval International Cup in Montreal, with the ODP team. Nunez will graduate Salutatorian, and will be attend ENMU this fall with plans to graduate with a Bachelor's Degree in biology and a minor in business.
"Victoria is a very smart, fast and passionate player that loves the game," said Morales. "Victoria is a fast learner and is coachable player that we believe will make an immediate impact in our program."
