PORTALES, NM — After a strong start to the season,
Marcus Parker from the Eastern New Mexico University men's track & field team received recognition for his performance. He was selected as the Lone Star Conference men's track athlete of the Week. The Hounds opened the outdoor portion of their 2017 schedule at the University of Arizona, last Saturday.
He is the Hounds first honoree this season. The last ENMU athlete selected as LSC Track Athlete of the Week was
Julian Coronado, last April.
Parker turned in a historic performance for the Greyhounds at last weekend's Willie Williams Classic. He provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division II Championships in two events and was part of a record-setting performance in the 4x100m relay. Parker ran the final portion of the 4x100 relay, crossing the finish line in a team-record 40.37, to earn the quartet provisional qualification and edge Arizona for first place in the event. He also registered first-place finishes in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes, with times of 10.65 and 21.20, respectively. Parker is currently second in the nation in the 200m, while the Greyhounds lead the NCAA Division II in the 4x100m relay.
The Eastern New Mexico University track & field team will return to action this weekend at the University of Texas-Arlington.
