PORTALES, NM – On Wednesday afternoon, the National Football Foundation announced the members of the 2017 Hampshire Honor Society. The society consists of football players from all divisions who maintain a high level of academic excellence. The Eastern New Mexico University football team was represented by fullback
Chivasiay Gallagher, defensive back Charles Wade, and offensive lineman
Jordan Wade.
To be eligible for the NFF Hampshire Honor Society, a player must maintain a grade-point average of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale through their careers. This year, the Hampshire Honor Society included 1.091 players from 298 schools. The Lone Star Conference was represented by six players.
Gallagher, a physical education major, rushed for 349 yards and three touchdowns last season. He compiled a career-best 122 yards and two scores to help the Hounds erase a 21-point deficit and claim the Wagon Wheel for the third time in four seasons. Gallagher also found the endzone with a 76-yard game against Tarleton State.
Stevens, a criminal justice major, finished the season with two interceptions and 18 tackles. He made a season-best four tackles and forced a fumble in the Wagon Wheel Game against West Texas A&M, and had interceptions in wins over Angelo State and Oklahoma Panhandle.
Wade, a criminal justice major, paved the way for the second-most prolific rushing offense in the NCAA Division II. For his efforts, he garnered Honorable Mention All-LSC. Behind Wade's blocking, the Greyhounds rushed for a at least 400 yards in games against Southwest Baptist, Western New Mexico, West Texas A&M, Oklahoma Panhandle, and Midwestern State. Eastern also topped the 500-yard mark in total offense on five occasions, with a season-best 645 against OPSU.
