Greyhound Women Have Record Day at Nationals

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Eastern New Mexico University Track and Field had a solid first day at the NCAA-II Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The Greyhounds saw their women's 4x100m relay team qualify for finals and make some history once again along the way, while Marcus Parker also qualified for finals in the 100m dash.

The ENMU women's 4x100 team consisting of Lateria Slaughter, Danee Bustos, Maijah Mathis, and Kandice Miles once again broke the school record as they finished eighth and qualified for finals on Saturday. The quartet ran a time of 45.78, breaking their previous record of 45.93 set earlier this season.

The record setting day also came with another reward as they are not only the first women's relay team in program history to qualify for nationals, but are also the first ever to make finals. With their advance, the women will have a day off before running again on Saturday in the finals, which is set for 1:35 p.m.

Also having a solid opening day for the Greyhounds was Parker in the 100m dash. The sophomore entered the national meet ranked third overall with a time of 10.17. He made his presence known, running the second fastest qualifying time of the day at 10.38. The only competitor finishing ahead of him was Mobolade Ajomale of the Academy of Art with a time of 10.30. Like the women, Parker will return to the track for the 100 finals on Saturday with the race starting at 2:45 p.m.

ENMU will be back in action on Friday, with three events on tap for the day. Getting things started will be Kenneth Lloyd in the high jump finals at 1:30 p.m. The other two events will be on the track and both will be the 200m dash. Parker will run the men's 200 prelims at 3:35 p.m., while Miles and Bustos will follow right after in the women's 200 prelims at 3:50 p.m.
