Portales dentist Buck Wilson was honored in the support category, but according to former Athletic Director B.B.Lees, could easily have been honored in the athletic category. Wilson played quarterback for ENMU from 1957-59, and also played running back and defensive back. Wilson served as the president of ENMU Bench Club, President of the Friends of Eastern Foundation, Chairmen of the ENMU Board of Regents, on the Commission of High Education, and on the Board of Directors of the Roosevelt County Chamber of Commerce. He received an engineering and math degree from ENMU in 1960.
