Don Carthel served as ENMU’s head football coach for seven seasons and compiled a 44-28 (.610) record. In 1991, he guided the team to a 7-3-1 record with a 5-1 mark in league play. That season marked Eastern’s first Lone Star Conference title in any sport and earned LSC Coach of the Year Honors. Carthel started at center for the ENMU football team from 1970-74 and was named MVP in 1973. He also was the team’s placekicker for four seasons.
