Gayle (Reeves) O’Connell served ENMU as the head volleyball coach and a physical education instructor for seven years from 1980-86. She accumulated a record of 146-91-2 and guided Eastern through the transition from NAIA to NCAA Division II. During O’Connell’s tenure she guided the Zias to the NAIA District 7 playoffs four consecutive years and placed second and third in the Lone Star Conference over her final two seasons. In 1984 she was named NAIA District 7 Coach of the Year.
