Joe Wood was a major contributor to the Greyhound football team over the 1956-58 seasons. In ENMU’s undefeated season he played both ways, as an offensive halfback and defensive safety. On November 3, 1956 he rushed for a team-record 173 yards in a win over Adams State which included a 75-yard run, which also was a record. On October 27, 1956 he returned a punt 95 yards, to set another team mark against United States Air Force Academy. Wood also competed for the ENMU track & field team.
