Michael Eckhart was a three-time All-American for the Greyhound swimming team in the 500, 1,000 and 1,650-yard freestyle events (1972-1973, 1974), setting ENMU records in those events. He was also a 1972 qualifier for the United States Olympic trials. He earned all-conference status in the 1,650-yard free style, 500 freestyle, 400-yard freestyle relay, and 800-yard freestyle relay. Swimmer's World Magazine featured numerous articles about Eckhart's complete domination over the sport.
