Russell Tatum was a four-year starter for the Greyhound football team. He received numerous honors which included the Hugh T. Brassell Award for the Outstanding Football Player in 1977 and was team captain in 1976. Tatum still holds the record for yards per carry in a season with at least 80 carries, at 7.3 yards. After Tatum graduated in 1978 he signed with the Dallas Cowboys and eventually served as the head coach at Sam Houston High School.
