Terri Leatherwood competed for the ENMU men's rodeo team in the 1978-79 season, when he led the squad to a second-place finish in the Southwest Region. In that year, he finished third in the calf roping and team roping. In the subsequent season, Leatherwood led Eastern to a fourth-place finish in the region and won the regional championship in calf roping. At the National Finals Rodeo, he was the runner up in the event. Leatherwood added a second-place finish in team roping to complete the season.
