Ty Touchstone from the football team, was selected as the Greatest Greyhound after the 2004 season, which saw the Hounds post a 5-2 mark in the Lone Star Conference South Division, including a dramatic victory in the Wagon Wheel game over West Texas A&M. He was invited to the Waldorf Astoria to receive the National Academic Award. Between football and track, Touchstone received three First Team ESPN The Magazine Academic All American honors in addition to making second team once. He was chosen Second Team Don Hansen All-Southwest Region in 2004 and made all-conference twice.
