Greyhound Softball Team to Host UTPB Falcons This Weekend

PORTALES, NM — The Eastern New Mexico University softball team returns home from a five-game road trip this weekend and will resume Lone Star Conference play. On Friday and Saturday, the Greyhounds are set to host University of Texas of the Permian Basin.

The three-game LSC series will open on Friday, with a doubleheader at noon MST, and conclude with a single game on Saturday, also at noon. Live statistics will be available for all three games at www.GoEasternAthletics.com, and a video stream will be available for Friday's game, pending weather conditions.

With 13 wins, the Greyhounds are just one away from matching last season's total. The squad has already notched six Lone Star Conference victories to surpass their 2016 total.
 
Eastern's lineup boasts four players (Erikka Burke, Susannah Chandler, Samantha Brockman, and Cameron Conrad) batting at least .326. The team currently is on pace for its sixth-best on-base percentage (.377).
 
Last week, Burke blasted two homeruns against Texas Woman's University to become the seventh player in program history to reach double figures in a season. Her 10 homers ties for sixth on the ENMU single-season list, while her 19 career round trippers ties Sarah Rempp for fourth in team history.

Head Coach Katie Welborn has won 27 games and is in her second season at ENMU. Earlier this season, she passed Ron Landschoot and Hollie Chadwick, and currently ranks fifth on the ENMU career wins list.

About UT-Permian Basin
University of Texas of the Permian Basin is looking to snap a five game skid and enters this weekend's series with a record of 5-25. The Falcons' 2-10 mark in LSC play has them in tenth place in the standings. Among UTPB's significant victories this season is a 2-1 decision over Oklahoma Christian and a 4-3 contest over Texas A&M-Kingsville.

Tiala Tagaloa is in her third season with the Falcons and has a record of 25-107.

In the Series with UTPB
Eastern is 13-9 all-time against UT-Permian Basin, with a 7-4 mark at home. The Hounds have won three of the last four against UTPB, with the last two meetings being wins at neutral sites.
 
Eastern won the first six home games against the Falcons by a combined 74-2, with the first five being by shutout. UT-Permian Basin has won four of the last five games against ENMU at Greyhound Softball Field. The last time the Falcons visited Portales, the teams split a high scoring pair of games. Eastern won the opening game, 16-2, but UTPB bounced back with a 19-11 win.

Next weekend, the Eastern New Mexico University softball team will visit Texas A&M-Commerce for a three-game LSC Series. The teams will open with a Friday doubleheader at 3 p.m. MST.
