Sia Poyer led the Greyhounds for over 11 seasons at the helm of the Eastern New Mexico volleyball program, and ranks third in school history with 110 career wins.  Poyer has been with the program for over 27 seasons starting as an assistant coach in 1990.

For the 2023 season, Poyer guided the program to an 11-20 finish with Mikaela Garvin earning their third career LSC postseason recognition (LSC Second Team). Getsemani Carrasco thrived during the 2023 season, leading the conference in digs per set (5.53 d/s) finishing 8th in the nation. During the season, Garvin tied the single-match record for most kills in a single-match (29 kills; Wayland Baptist, 10/31) and Carrasco set the all-time mark with 41 digs against Midwestern State (9/16). Additionally, Carrasco, Kayla Ison, and Gracelyn Stubbs all received CSC Academic All-District Team recognition.

During the 2022 campaign, ENMU finished 15-13 overall with a 6-10 conference standing. The Greyhounds began the season 9-3, it's best start under Poyer after 12 matches. Under the guidance of Poyer, several Greyhounds improved from the season prior with Mikaela Garvin and Gracelyn Stubbs both being named to the All-LSC Second Team. Stubbs finished the season with a .336 hitting percentage (9th best in a single season), while adding a team high 90 blocks along with 261 kills. Garvin paced the team with 284 kills and 3.35 points per set. Academically, Stubbs and Rylee Mapes both were named to the CSC Academic All-District Team.

Poyer led the Greyhounds back to the postseason in the 2021 season with a 7-19 overall record, and a 7-10 conference record after missing out on the 2020 season due to COVID-19 restrictions. Poyer grew the success of Mikaela Garvin during the 2021 season, who finished season as the LSC Freshman of the Year and landed on the LSC All-Freshman team. Garvin accumulated 2.22 k/s, and 0.65 b/s during the season. Poyer also oversaw Jasmine Gannon earning LSC All-Conference Second Team honors, after leading the team with 2.93 k/s, 3.43 p/s, and 268 digs.

During the 2018 campaign, Poyer guided the Greyhounds to a 9-20 mark and a 7-13 record in Lone Star Conference play to earn a third straight trip to the LSC Tournament. Under Poyer's guidance, sophomore outside hitter Jasmine Gannon was named to the All-Lone Star Conference First Team after finishing second in the conference with 384 kills at 3.31 kills per set.

Under his tutelage, two Greyhounds also made their way into the program record books as senior setter Kaitlyn Kluna surpassed Robin Whitfield for the eighth-most career assists with 1730 and senior libero Alba Ontiveros recorded the 538 digs in 2018 to surpass Hayley Couch for the ninth-most digs in a single season in program history. On top of the athletic success, Poyer's team had strong results academically as both Gannon and senior middle blocker Jennifer Martinez were named to the All-LSC Academic Team.

Poyer led the Hounds to their sixth straight LSC Tournament during the 2017 season after finishing with a record of 12-19 (9-11 LSC). Andrea Aguilar earned Libero of the Year honors for the conference at season's end and finished her career in second place on the school's all-time digs list with 1,814. Aguilar earned First Team All-LSC honors while fellow senior Brooklyn Biel earned Second Team honors. Sophomore Sarah Tuioti-Mariner was the third and final Hound to find her name on the all-conference list after an honorable mention performance.

The 2016 season marked a turning point in the success for the program under Poyer as the Hounds posted a 13-7 record in Lone Star Conference play, their best finish since the conference's merge in 2010. The Hounds swept Texas A&M-Commerce in the opening round of the LSC Tournament before falling to eventual champion Angelo State.

Six total Hounds earned post season recognition following the program's highest win total of 19 games since the 2004 season, including Lauren Frye, who was named the league's Offensive Player of the Year after posting 552 kills throughout the season. Frye climbed to the top of the school's all-time leader in kills for a career and was joined on the All-LSC list by Second Team All-LSC recipients Biel and Aguilar. Alexis Aguirre, Courtney Lawson, and Talaitupu Faumui all earned honorable mention accolades as well.

The 2014 and 2015 seasons saw Poyer continue to develop the talent needed to compete in the LSC with a win total of 13 games in both seasons.

In his first year at the helm, he posted an 8-20 record while leading the team to their first Lone Star Conference Tournament appearance since 2004. Three players where named all-conference and Frye was named Freshman of the Year, a first for ENMU in 22 years.

Prior to being named the eighth head coach in ENMU history, Poyer spent eight years in the same position at Valdosta State.

During his time at the helm of the Blazers, Poyer posted a 129-137 record including winning records in three of his last four years. Following the 2012 season, VSU’s four All-Gulf South Conference selections tied for the most of any team in the conference. Poyer guided eight players to all-conference honors over the last two campaigns. His best season came in 2010 when the team posted a 21-11 overall mark and 7-3 in the GSC.

As a first year head coach in 2005, Poyer guided the Blazers to 10 wins after the program posted four-win campaigns in both 2003 and 2004. The program’s 10 wins were the most since a 15-victory season in 2002. The following season, the team exploded for a 21-15 record and earned a berth in the GSC Tournament. When the season closed, VSU had set records in a number of categories including kills, digs and blocks.

Over Poyer’s 14 seasons at ENMU as an assistant coach, the squads posted a 187-81 record. The highlight of his tenure came during the 2004 season when the Zias reached the NCAA Division II Southwest Regional Tournament and took a thrilling five-set decision from Mesa State in the opening round. Eastern also won two regular-season LSC titles and a conference tournament crown over that span.

A native of Lauli'i, American Somoa, Poyer is married to the former ENMU legend Jennifer Goble, who is the only ENMU athlete that has been inducted into the Lone Star Conference Hall of Fame after standout careers in both women's basketball and volleyball.

He and his wife Jennifer reside in Portales with their three kids Malkolm, Malia, and Maina, as well as their dog Juliette. He enjoys playing golf in his free time and currently sits as the AVCA Lone Star Conference representative for the NCAA Division II Coaches Committee.
