Weight Room
With 500 student athletes and a need to get bigger, faster and stronger, Eastern New Mexico University along with the generous help of Senator Stuart Ingle, decided in February 2010 that a brand new state of the art weight room facility was needed to ensure the further growth across the board of the Eastern New Mexico Athletic Department.
That vision resulted in a $500,000 facility located adjacent to the ENMU softball complex, near Greyhound Arena, that covers 5,260 square feet and is one of the largest weight facilities in the conference. The facility is outfitted with 10 double-sided power racks and Olympic platforms, cable machines, leg press machines, rows of dumbbells, plyometric boxes, step up boxes, kettle bells, and core machines. In addition, the facility also includes a 12X12 foot wall specifically tailored for medicine ball work.
Along with the construction of the new facility, the university and the athletic department committed to hiring a full time strength and conditioning coordinator. In 2013, ENMU’s strength and conditioning coordinator Larry Varnardo Jr. won the Samson Strength and Conditioning Coordinator of the year award for Division II.
