GUNNISON, COLO. — With seven lead changes and four tied scores, the Eastern New Mexico University men's basketball team couldn't manage to keep up with the Western State Colorado University, ultimately losing a close one 81-77.
John Gilliam had a game high 31 points on an efficient 10-16 shooting and an outstanding 10-11 from the free throw line. Three other Greyhounds (0-3) scored in double digits, with Domingo Lawrence, JeVaughn Sanchez and Brady Patterson had 11, 10 and 12, respectively.
Domingo had a team-high 12 rebounds, giving him his first double-double of the season. Chaunce Hill was second on the team with seven rebounds.
The Greyhounds saw improved shooting from both free throw line and the field, going 68 percent from the charity stripe while hitting 42 percent of their field goals. From behind the arc ENMU went 4-19.
A testament to how close the contest was, the Mountaineers (1-2) shot 49 percent from the field and 57 percent from the line. Western State was also 8-23 from deep, hitting only 35 percent of their three-pointers.
The Greyhounds are back in action Saturday, taking on Colorado Mesa University. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. (MT).
