Friday, November 20, 2015

LUBBOCK, TEXAS — Kassandra Harris connected on nine of her 12 shots from the floor and all three of her free throws, to register the Eastern New Mexico University womens basketball team's first 20-point performance of the season. She poured in 21 points in 22 minutes of play, but the Greyhounds (1-2) dropped an 89-55 decision to Lubbock Christian at the Rip Griffin Center on Friday evening.

The Lady Chaps entered the game ranked 14th in the latest Division II media poll, sponsored by D2SIDA. Eastern's total of 55 points was the most given up by LCU this season. Lubbock Christian opened with a 68-43 win over Metro State and followed with a 72-44 victory over Metro State.

Tess Bruffey hit back-to-back layups to open the game and completed a 9-0 run 2:23 into the first quarter to force ENMU to call for a timeout. Sarah Stinnett got the Hounds on the board five seconds later with a jumper, and Harris followed with a short jumper to pull ENMU within 9-4 with 5:35 left in the period. The Lady Chaps extended their lead to 11 points late in the quarter, but a pair of Harris free throws pulled Eastern within 17-8, with 3:10 on the clock. The free throws pulled ENMU within single digits of LCU for the final time in the game.

The Hounds trailed 49-23 at halftime, but were only outscored 23-21 in the third quarter. During the third quarter, Harris shot 6-8 for the floor and had 13 points.
The Lady Chaps held a 48-31 advantage on the boards, but Eastern held an 8-6 lead on the offensive glass. The Greyhounds forced 16 turnovers and committed just 10 miscues. Mikaehla Connor joined Harris in double figures, with 10 points. Sarah Stinnett and Miranda Moore each dished out four assists. Moore also had six rebounds, while Stinnett finished with seven points. Briana White chipped in seven points and a team-best three steals.

The Eastern New Mexico University women's basketball team will return to the Rip Griffin Center tomorrow afternoon, to take on University of Texas of the Permian Basin. The game is scheduled to tip off at 4 p.m. MT. The Falcons dropped a 69-54 contest to Fort Lewis, earlier in the day, also at the Rip Griffin Center.
