STEPHENSVILLE, TEXAS— The Eastern New Mexico University men's basketball team (7-19, 0-13 LSC) couldn't keep up with first place Tarleton State University (24-2, 11-2 LSC), losing 65-55 Saturday night.
Only two Greyhounds scored in double digits, with
Chris Wyms (Jr., Carson, Calif. / King Drew Medical Magnet HS / Cerritos College) scoring 16 points on 6-of-15 shooting and
Demetrius Balark (Jr., Glendale, Ariz. / Raymond S. Kellis HS / Cochise College) recording 14 points on an efficient 5-of-9 shooting. Tarleton State was led by Mo Lee who scored a game high 26 points.
Eastern kept the first half close, tying the game twice and never falling more than five points behind. The effort lasted through the first seven minutes of the second half, but eventually Tarleton showed why they are sitting atop the Lone Star Conference standings and pushed the lead to double digits.
Credit to the Greyhounds though, who once again never gave up and kept chiseling away at the Texans' lead. Down by 15 points at with only several minutes left, Eastern gave Tarleton State a scare when a Wyms three-pointer brought their lead to within three.
The Texans' would keep their poise though, maintaining their lead and holding off the Greyhounds. Eastern will look to take on West Texas A&M University in their final regular season game before the LSC tournament.
The Greyhounds will travel to Canyon, Texas Feb. 28. Tipoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. (MST).
