PORTALES, N.M. — Lawrence Domingo walked around the court lost in emotion, looking for someone to celebrate with or simply exchange a high-five, as time dwindled down to zero in the Eastern New Mexico men's basketball 72-60 win over Texas A&M-Commerce Saturday; the senior forward had been waiting for this moment almost two years and he knew the drought was over.

For the first time since March 1, 2014 – spanning two seasons – the Greyhounds (5-13, 1-5 LSC) won their first Lone Star Conference game.  The win over the Lions (12-6, 2-4 LSC) couldn't have been harder earned, with the Greyhounds having to fight to the last minute to stave off the high scoring team from Commerce, Texas.

Javaan Mumtaz led all scorers with 23 points, continuing his tear through the conference as he has scored over 20 points in each of his last three contests.  Domingo put in 14 of his own points along with nine rebounds, falling one short of a double-double.

Kevin Saiz and Javandon Staves each added nine points, Saiz going 3-3 from the 3-point line, while both Stephon Edwards and Arcaim Lallemand scored six points each.  Lallemand led the team with 10 rebounds.

Eastern led by as much as 17 points in the first half, jumping out to a lead from the tip that just kept growing.  By half-time, the Greyhounds headed into the locker room up 36-25.  Commerce would not go quietly however, pushing back in the opening minutes of the second-half, taking a slim lead in just over five minutes of play.

After five lead changes and six ties, Eastern would go on a 7-0 run with under five minutes left to play that would shut the door on Commerce and give the Hounds its aforementioned long awaited conference win.

Perhaps most impressive was the Greyhounds defense, who held the Lions to 32 percent from the floor and an unprecedented 0-13 from beyond the arc.  The last time ENMU held a team scoreless from 3-point land was Jan. 1, 2014, when Angelo State went 0-3 from downtown.

While the Greyhounds still have more than half of their conference play in front of them, the win will definitely help them moving forward.  Their next matchup will be against rival West Texas A&M, when the Hounds hit the road and head to Canyon, Texas.  Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. (MT).
