PORTALES, N.M. — A late surge staked the Eastern New Mexico University women's soccer team (3-10-1; LSC 2-7) to a 6-4 edge in second-half shots in Friday night's Lone Star Conference matchup. Texas Woman's University (8-6-1; LSC 4-5) managed to overcome the late Greyhound rally and held on for a 1-0 win at Al Whitehead Field at Greyhound Stadium.
The game evened the season series between the teams, as Eastern picked up a 2-0 victory against TWU, in a game that was played in Commerce, Texas, due to weather conditions. The Pioneers are 2-1-1 in their last four trips to Portales.
The Turning Point
- With less than 10 minutes left in the first half, TWU's Cara Zwilling took advantage of a corner kick to tally her second goal of the season
- Over the last 4:32 of the second half, Eastern managed three shots and a pair of corner kicks
In the Numbers
- The setback marked the second straight 1-0 loss for Eastern and the fourth straight by a single goal
- Marissa Torres made six saves for the Greyhounds
- TWU held an 11-8 advantage in total shots and a 7-3 lead in shots on goal
- Vanessa Gallegos paced ENMU with three shots
The Eastern New Mexico University women's soccer team will return to action on Sunday, to host 21
st-ranked Texas A&M-Commerce. The game is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. MT.
