Greyhound Women's Soccer Honors Seven Seniors Prior to Home Finale

Friday, October 28, 2016

PORTALES, N.M. — The Eastern New Mexico University women's soccer team honored its seven seniors prior to Friday's home finale against Midwestern State (10-5-2; LSC 7-4). The Mustangs handed the Greyhounds (3-13-1; LSC 2-10) a 2-0 setback in Lone Star Conference action at Al Whitehead Field at Greyhound Stadium.

The contest marked the final home appearance of Valaria Jaramillo, Breanna Atencio, Andrea Thiel, Sydney Lawrence, Vanessa Gallegos, Tori Hendrickson, and Jenna Sievers. The seven players combined for 13 goals over 341 matches for Eastern.

The contest remained scoreless until Midwestern State's Destinee Williamson scored on a sliding shot from five-yards out, with 5:12 left in the opening half. Eastern's best opportunity came immediately after the goal, when Mirka Zamarripa dribbled to the left side of the MSU goal. Mustang goalkeeper Courtney Burnette dove on the ball to prevent a potential shot. Taylor Robsinson added an insurance goal for MSU, early in the second half.

ENMU's Marissa Torres made nine saves for Eastern, while Burnette had three for the Mustangs. Midwestern State held a 4-1 edge in corner kicks, with all five coming in the second half.

The contest concludes the regular season for the Eastern New Mexico University women's soccer team. On Sunday, the LSC will announce the brackets for the upcoming conference tournament. Eastern is in sixth place, which currently puts them in position for the final berth.
