PORTALES, N.M. — Lawrence Domingo was honored Saturday along with two other Eastern New Mexico men's basketball student-athletes for senior night and, despite the loss to West Texas A&M, 82-63, the fourth year forward had one of his best performances of the year and went out with a bang.
Domingo led the Hounds (6-20, 2-12 LSC) with 15 rebounds and 19 points, recording his team-leading sixth double-double of the season. The Buffs (21-9, 9-5 LSC) were led by David Chavlovich with 22 points.
On the opposite side of the class list, freshmen Brady Patterson and Arcaim Lallemand both had good showings, scoring eight points apiece and Patterson grabbing six boards. Javaan Mumtaz added nine for the Hounds.
ENMU took an early lead against the Buffs and pushed that lead to as high as eight points in the opening minutes of the contest. WT would come back though and the first half would turn into a back-and-forth slug fest between the two teams. In the closing minutes, West Texas would push their lead up to seven points, heading into the locker room 34-27.
WT, who went 1-for-10 from beyond the arc in the first half, would come out firing on all cylinders to start the second. They not only tripled their 3-point percentage, but also increased their overall field goal percentage from 42 percent to almost 60 percent in the last half.
ENMU shot 37 percent from the floor and a blazing 42 percent from deep. The Greyhounds shot just under 60 percent from the charity stripe as well.
Eastern will now head to Allen, Texas, where they will take on the No. 1 seed Midwestern State in the first round of the Lone Star Conference tournament. Tipoff is scheduled for March. 2 at 7:30 p.m. (MT).
