DENTON, TEXAS — Faced with a 14-point deficit, the Eastern New Mexico University women's basketball team (8-13; LSC 3-8) used a 27-8 run which spanned almost 14 minutes to seize a five-point second half lead. Texas Woman's (18-6; LSC 8-4) rallied to retake the lead and pulled away for a 66-48 win over the Greyhounds in Lone Star Conference action, Tuesday night at Kitty Magee Arena.
Kassandra Harris led the effort with 12 points.
The Pioneers charged to a 22-8 lead in the opening quarter and held a 24-10 edge in the early minutes of the second quarter. Less than 30 seconds in to the second period,
Brittany Gutierrez hit a layup followed by four free throws from Harris. The points sparked a 27-8 ENMU run which stretched nearly to the midway point of the third quarter to give ENMU a 37-32 lead. During that stretch, the Pioneers were held to just three field goals.
Texas Woman's answered with a 12-2 run, and seized the lead for good at 41-39 on a Morgan Easley layup. The Hounds pulled within two points on a
Jordyn Cooper free throw with 22 seconds left in the third quarter, but TWU pulled away for the win.
Mikaehla Connor contributed 10 points for Eastern, while
Sarah Stinnett had eight points, four steals and a pair of assists.
Brittany Gutierrez and
Eliza Martinez each blocked a shot. Gutierrez also chipped in seven points.
The Eastern New Mexico University women's basketball team will return to action on Thursday at Cameron.
