STEPHENVILLE, Texas — The Eastern New Mexico baseball team dropped their first two games of their four game series against Tarleton State Sunday, dropping the first 14-3 followed by a 10-3 loss in the second contest.
The Greyhounds are now 7-13 overall and 2-7 in Lone Star Conference play. The Texans are 9-9 and 3-3 in the LSC.
GAME ONE
Scoring one run in the opening inning, the Greyhounds would find themselves looking at a four run deficit after the second inning, with Tarleton putting up not only a run of their own in the first, but four more runs in the second inning. The Texans would go on to score nine more runs to Eastern's three total, ending the contest early in the seventh inning.
Justin Paul, Daniel Ward, Dylan Nault, Alex Rojas and Keenan Dodd all recorded one hit. Dodd, Paul and Ward each had an RBI as well.
ENMU was out hit in the contest 12-5, with Tarleton managing to find their way on base one way or another most of the night. J'Daylin Jackson was saddled with the loss for the Hounds, throwing three innings while giving up five earned runs and striking out three batters.
Enrique Perez came in as relief for Jackson and in two and two-third innings of work, struck out three batters while also giving up four earned runs.
GAME TWO
After the Texans opened up the game scoring one run, both teams went scoreless over the next three innings until another four run inning by Tarleton in the bottom of the fifth. The Hounds managed to score a run in the top of the fifth, but Tarleton would answer with five more runs of their own in the seventh.
Zach Shank and Dodd each recorded two hits in the contest. Ward and Paul each had one hit a piece.
On the mound, Nick DeArmond threw 4.1 innings, recording six strikeouts and five earned runs. Alec Lemmon came in as relief, pitching one shutout out inning before giving up the two previously mentioned runs in the seventh inning. He also struck out four batters on the night.
The Hounds managed to load the bases in the ninth, but only came away with two runs in the inning.
The two teams will resume the series Monday at 12 p.m. (MT).
