PORTALES, N.M. — After the most a 2-0 victory over Texas Woman's University, the Eastern New Mexico University women's soccer team will return home for a pair of Lone Star Conference matches. The home stand will open on Friday night, with the Greyhound taking on University of Texas of the Permian Basin. On Sunday afternoon, Eastern will host Angelo State.
The last time ENMU played on Al Whitehead Field at Greyhound Stadium, they exploded for a team-record
11 goals and set another record with eight assists. For her efforts in the win,
Mirka Zamarripa was chosen as the LSC Offensive Co-Player of the Week.
The Matchup
The Greyhounds hold a 6-2 record against University of Texas of the Permian Basin and are 4-0 at home against the Falcons. Last season
Melissa Carnero netted the game winner 34:26 into the game, while
Cristina Escobedo made two saves to earn the shutout.
Carolyn Armijo and
Tori Hendrickson tallied insurance goals for the Hounds.
The first game in the series was played in Odessa, Texas, on September 18, 2004. Eastern won the game 6-0, with Stephanie Sanchez and Amy Holtman combining for five saves.
The Greyhounds are 3-13-1 against Angelo State and two of their three wins have come in home games. ENMU's last victory over the Rambelles came in 2014, when Alyssa Prince scored twice to end a seven-match shutout streak for ASU. Fabienne Wilson made five saves to earn the fourth shutout of her career.
The first game in the series was played in Portales, on October 18, 2003. Angelo State won the game 6-2. Megan Dozier tallied two goals in the game.
In his
third season at ENMU Head Coach
Omar Morales has posted 15 wins, which includes seven victories in LSC play. Morales trails only Travis McCorkle (40-47-2) in wins at Eastern New Mexico University.
Lindsey Garcia is in her fourth season at University of Texas of the Permian Basin and has guided the Falcons to an 8-46-3 record.
Travis McCorkle is in his ninth season at Angelo State and boasts a 96-55-15 record with the Rambelles.

Junior goalkeeper
Marissa Torres enters the weekend with a 1.19 goals against average and .814 save percentage. She is the first ENMU goalkeeper since Fabienne Wilson in 2014 to post multiple shutouts in a season.
Zamarripa and
Tori Hendrickson pace the Hounds with three goals apiece. Hendrickson's penalty shot provided the game-winning goal against Texas Woman's University, and marked the first game-winning PK for Eastern since a 2014 contest against West Texas A&M.
Anniah Galdean leads ENMU with two assists.

Angelo State has split its last four games and will visit West Texas A&M on Friday. The Rambelles have not given up more than one goal in any game this season and have posted four shutouts. Goalkeeper Sammy Cude has posted a 0.39 goals –against average. Demi Tsambasis leads the Rambelles with seven goals.
