PORTALES, N.M. —
Mirka Zamarripa,
Andrea Thiel, and
Anniah Galdean each scored for the Eastern New Mexico University women's soccer team (3-4-1; LSC 2-1) in the first half of Friday's Lone Star Conference match at Al Whitehead Field at Greyhound Stadium. The Greyhounds withstood a strong second half from University of Texas of the Permian Basin (0-6-1; LSC 0-3) and held on for the 3-2 victory.
With the win, ENMU improved to 7-2 overall against UTPB, with a 5-0 mark at home. Tonight's game marked the first meeting at Al Whitehead Field at Greyhound Stadium. Tonight's match marked the first time this season that both the Greyhounds and their opponents scored in a game.
First Half
- The Hounds held an 8-6 edge in shots during the opening half and a 1-0 lead in corner kicks
- Zamarripa netted her fourth goal of the season from 11 yards out, after taking a through pass from Courtney Pittman at the 20:04 mark
- 25:54 into play, Andrea Thiel netted the second goal of the game, after picking up a rebound off the UTPB crossbar
- Just before the end of the half, Alexys Andaya fired a long through pass to Anniah Galdean, who tallied her third goal of the season for a 3-0 lead
Second Half
- The Falcons held a 13-2 edge in shots over the final 45 minutes of the game
- Just 7:12 into the second half, Deonna Calhoun had her back to the net when she took a pass from Gisel Olvera, and scored for UTPB
- With less than 15 minutes remaining, Haley Hicks scored from 35 yards out to pull the Falcons to within a single goal
- Marissa Torres made six saves (three in each half) to earn her third win in the last four games

The Eastern New Mexico University women's soccer team will return to action on Sunday, to host Angelo State. The contest is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. MT.
