PORTALES, NM — The Eastern New Mexico University women's basketball team (14-4; LSC 10-1) saw their 10-game Lone Star Conference win streak snapped in Thursday night's contest against league-rival West Texas A&M (14-6; LSC 7-4). Junior guard
Mikaehla Connor poured in a game-high 12 points for the Hounds in a 62-52 setback at Greyhound Arena.
After the team's first road win over WT since 1981, the Hounds entered tonight's contest looking for the first season-sweep over the Lady Buffs in program history. With the loss, ENMU remains one game ahead of Angelo State for first place in the LSC standings, with the Rambelles idle on Thursday evening.
Fast Start
- After an early exchange of baskets gave the Lady Buffs an early 5-4 lead, Eastern made their move offensively
- Daeshi McCants and Jasmine Hotchkins drained back-to-back three-point buckets to ignite an 8-2 Greyhound run for a 12-7 lead
The Turning Point
- After ENMU took its second five-point lead of the game, WT's Maddison Wild hit a layup
- The bucket ignited a 13-2 Lady Buff run over the ensuing 5:52 of play for a 20-14 WT lead
Late Surge
- Facing a 47-36 deficit with 6:55 left, the Hounds rallied
- Eastern scored six straight points at the free throw line to close within five points, but could come no closer
Beyond the Box Score
- Eastern was held under .300 from the field for just the third time this season (Western Washington and Wayland Baptist were the other two games)
- WT entered the game ranked fourth in the nation in field goal percentage (.480) and were limited to 40 percent from the floor
- ENMU also limited the LSC's top three-point shooting team (.368) to .267 from three-point range
- Mikaehla Connor led the Hounds in scoring for the fourth time in the last five games
