Hounds Race Past UTPB; Set Up Crucial LSC Series This Weekend

ODESSA, Texas – The Eastern New Mexico University volleyball team climbed back to .500 in Lone Star Conference play with a 3-1 (26-24, 25-14, 24-26, 25-19) win on the road Tuesday at UT Permian Basin. With an 8-8 record in league play, the Greyhounds (11-15) are in a three-way tie for sixth place with Texas Woman's and Western New Mexico. Eastern holds a two-match lead over Midwestern State for the final spot in the LSC Tournament.
 
Freshman Jasmine Gannon led the team with 13 kills while hitting .360 on the match. Sophomore Sarah Tuioti-Mariner had a strong all-around performance for ENMU, producing 11 kills, 10 digs, three blocks and an ace. Senior Andrea Aguilar led the team defensively with 14 digs and Marissa Ellis (11), Kaitlyn Kluna (11), Alexis Aguirre (10) and Tuioti-Mariner all broke double-figures. Aguirre (24) and Kluna (16) combined for 40 of the team's 45 assists. Sadie Phimmasone was an anchor in the middle for the Hounds, turning away four attempts by the Falcons.
 
The Greyhounds host Texas Woman's and Texas A&M-Commerce on Nov. 3-4. Friday's matchup with the Pioneers is sponsored by San Juan Village while senior night on Saturday is presented by Hampton Farms. First serve in both matches is slated for 6 p.m. at Greyhound Arena.
