Hounds Unable to Overcome Hot Shooting Hilltoppers

AUSTIN, Texas – The Eastern New Mexico University men's basketball team allowed St. Edward's to shoot 56.7% from the field and 58% from beyond the arc, leading to a 96-83 setback at the St. Edward's Thanksgiving Classic on Friday. ENMU falls to 3-2 on the young season after the loss despite a furious late comeback bid.

The Green and Silver were silent from the three-point line, missing their first 11 attempts and going 2-for-15 from deep. Another area that plagued ENMU was the charity stripe. Eastern attempted just 11 free throws and converted on only five, compared to the 14-of-20 shooting by St. Edward's.

Senior Lamarquis Thompson continued his hot start to the season. The senior shot 58% from the field while grabbing seven caroms, including four on the offensive end and distributing a pair of assists.

Junior Arcaim Lallemand turned in a strong shooting performance, going 7-of-9 from the field and scoring in double-figures for the second time this season. The Naples, Fla., product also grabbed seven boards to go along with his 14 points.

Senior Andre Hughes built off his last outing against Azusa Pacific where the forward scored 18 points and pulled down 12 boards in 22 minutes a weekend ago. On Friday, Hughes had nine boards and six points against St. Edward's providing a spark off the bench.

After snapping an 0-for-11 string from beyond the arc, Thompson hit the Hounds first three of the game with 13:17 remaining to pull within 12 down 68-56. ENMU would use Thompson's trey as a springboard, as that started a 22-9 run, pulling the Green and Silver within two points of the Hilltoppers at 77-75.

Unfortunately for the Greyhounds, SEU answered with a 19-4 run of its own over the next several minutes to put the game out of reach for Eastern.

Zach Parker (14 points), Jamani Pierce (13 points) and Maurice Coleman (11 points) all contributed double-digit points. The trio also combined for six assists, three by Coleman, and eight rebounds.

The Hounds wrap up play at the St. Edward's Thanksgiving Classic on Saturday against Dallas Baptist. Tipoff against the Patriots is slotted for 1 p.m. in Austin.
