EDMOND, Okla. – The Eastern New Mexico University men's basketball team snapped a six-game losing streak with an 86-77 victory over Oklahoma Christian on the road Friday evening. The Greyhounds improve to 4-7 on the season with the win.
Â
"I was very proud of our program tonight," ENMU Head Coach
Tres Segler said. "As a coach, you're supposed to always stay positive and our kids in our program helped me to do that. We were able to finish off a great road win with some key plays late in the game. Our ball screen offense was great to us, and we got our bigs involved on some great rolls. We were able to get rim shots and that's always a plus to win a road game."
Â
Jamani Pierce led the Hounds with a 20-point and eight rebound outburst against the Eagles. The senior went 4-of-8 from the field, but did most of his damage from the charity stripe, converting on 12 of his 15 attempts at the line.
Â
"We shot it well from the line tonight," Segler added. "I was proud of my guys for getting to the rim and forcing them to foul."
Â
Zach Parker (13 PTS) and
Lamarquis Thompson (10 PTS, 7 REB, 3 AST) shot 63 and 68 percent from the field, respectively, while scoring in double figures. The duo also shot 4-of-7 from three-point land and 5-for-5 from the line.
Maurice Coleman,
Arcaim Lallemand and
Devin Pullum each added nine points.
Andre Hughes came up big on the glass, grabbing six boards in the matchup.
Â
"Oklahoma Christian is a great program that is hungry just like us," Segler said. "Tonight was a great step forward for the Greyhound Family and I'm very proud of how hard our guys fought for each other."
Â
Leading 65-63 with 7:29 to go, the Green and Silver were able to put the game away with a 21-12 run to close the game. Six different Greyhounds scored down that stretch as ENMU knocked down 13 of its 26 free throws in the second half to put the game away, including nine-straight to help regain the lead for good.
Â
The Hounds return to the friendly confines of Greyhound Arena on Tuesday, Dec. 19, against Regis. The men's basketball team is hosting a toy drive that day, benefiting the Baptist Children's Home and Christian Children's Home in the Portales community. All fans that bring a toy for donation will get in free to the 3 p.m. affair against the Rangers.
