PORTALES, NM — The Eastern New Mexico University women's basketball team (5-6) held a decisive 45-37 rebounding advantage against fourth-ranked Lubbock Christian (12-1), which included an 18-7 edge on the offensive glass. The Lady Chaps overcame that disadvantage to post a 64-55 win over Eastern on Saturday afternoon at Greyhound Arena.
Mikaehla Connor led Eastern with 15 points and seven rebounds.
The Key Run
- Facing a 35-20 deficit with 1:20 left in the first half, Eastern's Brandi Gomez hit a short jumper
- Connor followed with five straight points as the Hounds exploded on an 18-66 run
- Late in the third quarter, Kaylee Edgemon capped the run with back-to-back treys as the Hounds closed within 41-38 with 3:42 left in the third quarter
- The Hounds would pull within three points just once more, 51-48, on a fastbreak trey from Gomez with 7:01 left in the game
Inside the Numbers
- ENMU held a 20-5 edge in second-chance points
- Alivia Lewis finished with seven points and five rebounds
- Daeshi McCants grabbed 10 rebounds, blocked a shot and had a steal
- Shelby Jones finished with eight boards, six points, a block and steal
- Dasia Johnson dished out four assists
- Tess Bruffey paced LCU with 19 points, nine caroms and two blocks
