Hounds Clinch Share of LSC Title

LAWTON, Okla. – The Eastern New Mexico University women's basketball team clinched at least a share of the Lone Star Conference regular season championship with an 81-72 win over Cameron on Saturday. The Greyhounds improve to 20-5 overall and 16-2 in LSC play.

Saturday also marked the third 20-win season in program history and first since the 1992-93 season.

"I'm very proud of this team and what we've been able to accomplish this season," ENMU Head Coach Josh Prock said. "We still have work to do, but the fight and resiliency these girls continue to show is amazing. Give Cameron a lot of credit, they have some kids that can play."

Eastern's Daeshi McCants picked up 20 points on 7-of-13 shooting while grabbing eight rebounds in the win. Johna McClelland added 16 points and eight boards while Mikaehla Connor picked up 14 points. Brandi Gomez hit a pair of threes and finished with 11 points in the win. Eliza Martinez grabbed eight rebounds to tie for the team-lead.

"Daeshi did a great job of getting us going offensively," Prock added. "She did a little bit of everything for us tonight on both ends of the court. Johna came up with some huge rebounds for us on the defensive end. Brandi Gomez hit some key threes for us early on."

The Greyhounds carried a 10-point lead into the locker room led by 14 first half points from McCants while McClelland added 10 and four rebounds. Eastern knocked down seven three-pointers in the first 20 minutes while also grabbing 11 offensive rebounds. Additionally, the Green and Silver shared the wealth on the offensive end, dishing out 12 assists while committing only five turnovers.

Overall the ENMU defense held the offensive-minded Aggies to 4-of-20 shooting from beyond the arc and just over 40% on the game. The Greyhounds shot 46% from the court while going 8-of-21 from beyond the arc. ENMU's balanced offensive attack churned out 15 assists.

The Greyhounds return to the court on Thursday, Feb. 23 against Angelo State. Tipoff is slated for 5:30 p.m. against the Rambelles in Greyhound Arena. For the latest news on all ENMU athletics, visit GoEasternAthletics.com.
