Big Inning Propels Greyhound Softball to Split with Colorado Christian

Tuesday, February 7, 2017

LUBBOCK, TEXAS — Susannah Chandler bashed her third homer of the season and the Eastern New Mexico University softball team (1-6) exploded for six runs in the third inning, en-route to their first win of the season. The Hounds defeated Colorado Christian 8-0 in the opening game of Tuesday's Doubleheader at Plains Capital Park. The Cougars bounced back to claim an 11-2 decision in the nightcap.

The doubleheader marked the first meeting between the programs.

About the Opener
  • The Cougars threatened with two singles in the first inning, but Kaylee Rogers induced a ground-ball double play from Sarah Probasco to escape the jam
  • The Hounds sent 11 batters to the plate in the bottom of the third and plated six runs
  • Much of ENMU's production in the inning came from a two-run double from Kylee Keller, followed by a two-run blast from Chandler
  • Rogers faced just 18 batters over five innings, as ENMU turned two double plays over the first three innings
  • Keller had two hits and drove in three runs for the Hounds
  • Chandler extended her hit streak to five games with a two-for-three performance
About the Nightcap
  • Erikka Burke plated Audrey Velazquez with a triple in the Greyhound fourth inning of the nightcap, and scored Eastern's second run when Ashley Lopez was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded
  • The two run inning wasn't enough to bring the Greyhounds back from an early 8-0 deficit, as the Cougars scored twice in the first inning, and three times in each of the next two frames.
  • Velasquez batted two-for-three in the game
