Carabajal and Pease Register Hits for Hounds in Series Finale Against #8 Angelo State

Saturday, March 11, 2017

PORTALES, NM —Freshman third baseman Adriana Carabajal registered a base hit for the seventh time in her last eight games, as the Eastern New Mexico University softball team (13-19; LSC 6-6) concluded its Lone Star Conference series against eighth-ranked Angelo State (24-1; LSC 8-0) on Saturday. The game was a pitcher's duel early on, but ASU pulled away late to hand ENMU a 5-0 setback at Greyhound Field.

For the second straight day, freshman pitcher Kaylee Rogers held the Rambelles in check for much of the contest. Over the first four innings, she limited the high powered Angelo State lineup to a single run on three hits. ASU entered the weekend ranked seventh in the nation in scoring. For the game, Rogers scattered eight hits and fanned one batter.

Angelo State added runs in the top of the fifth on a Bailey Wallace bunt single and Kenedy Urbany sacrifice fly to seize a 3-0 lead. The Rambelles tacked on two runs in the seventh to provide the final margin.

Left fielder Christina Pease added a bunt singled and stolen base for ENMU in the sixth inning. Brandy Marlett allowed two hits and struck out nine to win her 11th game for the Rambelles this season. Marlett entered the weekend ranked 11th in the nation in hits given up per seven innings and eighth in strikeouts.

The Eastern New Mexico University softball team will return to action on Friday to open a Lone Star Conference series at Texas Woman's University. The first game of the doubleheader is scheduled for 4 p.m. MST.
