Hounds Break Out the Brooms Against UTPB

PORTALES, N.M. – The Eastern New Mexico University baseball team pounded out 12 runs in the 12-5 win over Texas-Permian Basin in the series finale on Sunday. The Greyhounds improve to 21-5 on the season following the four-game sweep of the Falcons and open Lone Star Conference play on Friday.

Bryce Welborn earned the win for ENMU, tossing 6.2 innings while scattering four hits for three runs (two earned) with three walks and five strikeouts. Blake Frye and Enrique Perez combined to two-hit the Falcons over the final 2.1 innings to close out the win.

The Green and Silver clicked all afternoon offensively and were sparked by Michael McNicholl and Chris Padilla. The duo each launched a home run and both drove in four runs. Padilla, the hero of yesterday's 11-inning affair, went 3-for-4 and came a double shy of the cycle. Endy Villalona and Alex DeLaCruz each tallied a three-hit performance.

The Falcons claimed an early lead in the top of the first, but McNicholl blasted a two-run no-doubter in the bottom of the first to give the Hounds the lead. ENMU continued to add on in the second on Padilla's solo jack before tacking on four in the fifth and three in the eighth to secure the win.

The Greyhounds return to the diamond on Friday, March 24, for the conference opener against West Texas A&M. First pitch against the Buffs is slated for 7 p.m. For all the latest news on ENMU athletics, follow @ENMUBaseball and @ENMUAthletics on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
