Hounds Fall in Finale at Kingsville

KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Eastern New Mexico University baseball team lost its fourth-straight game on Saturday, falling to Texas A&M-Kingsville, 6-4, in the series finale. With the loss, ENMU moves to 27-15 on the season and 5-9 in Lone Star Conference play.

Infielder Alex DeLaCruz again sparked the offense, turning in a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with a double, RBI and run scored. Nick DeArmond had a solid outing on the mound to take a no-decision. The right-hander gave up three runs on five hits and three walks while fanning three over 5.2 innings.

After taking a 3-2 lead in the top of the sixth, the Javelinas pushed across the equalizer in the bottom of the inning on a wild pitch before taking the lead for good with a three-spot in the bottom of the seventh.

In the top of the ninth, ENMU put the tying run on-base following a Nicholas Ankerman RBI single. After a double-steal with Ankerman and Paul Tapia moved the duo into scoring position. A full-count flyout to center ended the threat and the game for the Greyhounds.

The Greyhounds return to the diamond on Friday for the final homestand of the season against nationally-ranked Angelo State. First pitch on Friday with the Rams is set for 7 p.m. at Greyhound Field.  For all the latest news on ENMU athletics, follow @ENMUBaseball and @ENMUAthletics on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
