PORTALES, N.M. – The Eastern New Mexico University baseball team dropped both games of Saturday's double header with 11
th-ranked Angelo State, 5-2 and 3-2. After the setback, ENMU moves to 28-17 overall and 6-11 in Lone Star Conference action.
Â
In game one, the Greyhounds surrendered an early 2-0 lead before responding with a run in the bottom of the third.
Levi Shandrew was hit by a one-out offering and
Alex DeLaCruz reached on an error by the Rams' third baseman.
Endy Villalona worked a walk before a bases-loaded wild pitch cut the score to 2-1, but ASU would tack on two more runs in the fifth and an additional run in the seventh to stretch the lead to 5-1.
Â
In the bottom of the seventh,
Mike McNicholl doubled down the left field line to start the frame. As a pinch hitter,
Tyler Barker roped a single back through the box for an RBI.
Blake Frye launched a ball to the warning track in right, coming mere feet shy of a two-run blast, but the rocket was tracked down.
Â
In game two,
Keenan Dodd turned in a masterful start, baffling the Rams offense for much of the afternoon. Prior to the sixth inning, the right-hander had only surrendered one hit and three walks with six strikeouts, but ran into trouble in the sixth. Angelo State would strike for three runs to take the lead.
Â
In the bottom of the inning, ENMU rallied for a pair of runs against the ASU closer. Barker and DeLaCruz opened the inning with infield singles prior to DeLaCruz stealing second. After a pair of flyouts, McNicholl extended the inning and brought home a pair of runs on a hot-shot to third, but the Greyhounds were unable to bring home the equalizer, leading to the 3-2 loss.

The Greyhounds are back in action tomorrow afternoon for the series finale against the Rams. First pitch for Senior Day is tabbed for 1 p.m. For all the latest news on ENMU athletics, follow @ENMUBaseball and @ENMUAthletics on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
