The Eastern New Mexico University football team opened the 2017 season with a dramatic win over 18th-ranked Southwest Baptist. The win was ENMU's third straight home victory and allowed Head Coach Kelley Lee to become the first Greyhound head coach to win his debut game since Harold "Bud" Elliott in the 1994 season.

Since opening Al Whitehead Field at Greyhound Stadium last season, the Hounds boast a 5-2 home record.

The ground game has been a staple of the Greyhound football team and they lead the LSC in that defensive category and rank second on the offensive side. ENMU also is second in the conference in punt return average and third in kick coverage. Special teams continue to be a strength, with the Hounds posting the second-best punt average in the league. The defense has registered the third-most interceptions in the conference. Offensively, ENMU ranks fourth in first downs and third-down conversions.

???????Kamal Cass, the LSC Preseason Co-Offensive Player of the Year currently ranks third in rushing. Johnny Smith ranks second in the LSC in yards per reception. Bailey Hale has been extremely reliable and is second in the LSC in kicking points and sixth overall. Cass is seventh in all-purpose yardage, while quarterback Wyatt Strand rates tenth in total offense. Nicolas Little is fourth in punt average. Tobi Amadi is eighth in passes defended, while Deion Hart and Desmond Blue are 13th and 14th, respectively. Entering the fourth week of the season, KeAndre Hal remains the lone LSC player with more than one fumble recovery, while Zach Johnson leads the league in forced fumbles.

In the Series
The Greyhounds are 16-24-1 against Angelo State, with a 7-12-1 mark at home. Today's contest marks the first time the Rams will play at Al Whitehead Field at Greyhound Stadium. Since the series started in 1968, the only home site the series has seen was Blackwater Draw.

Since 2013, the Greyhounds have won three of the last five meetings. The 2013 game which started that run saw ENMU rally from a 28-0 first-half deficit to a stirring 29-28 win which propelled them to a share of the Lone Star Conference title.

Last year, the Hounds charged to a 25-0 lead at LeGrand Stadium and never looked back on the way to a 25-14 win. Kamal Cass had two early touchdown runs followed by a 31-yard field goal from Bailey Hale. Wyatt Strand punctuated the scoring with a touchdown run near the end of the half. ENMU scored 14 points off turnovers.
