McCants Notches Tenth Double Double of Career as Hounds Edge Javelina in Overtime Thriller

PORTALES, NM — Senior forward Daeshi McCants scored 18 points and grabbed 13 rebounds Thursday morning to become the second player since the 2000-01 season to notch 10 double doubles for the Eastern New Mexico University women's basketball team. The Greyhounds (9-7; LSC 5-4) needed every bit of that effort to pick up a 67-61 overtime win over Texas A&M-Kingsville (4-13; LSC 1-8). The Lone Star Conference contest was sponsored by Bender Family of Dealerships, Clovis, and played in front of 1,868 enthusiastic fans during Kid's Day at Greyhound Arena.

Inside the Series
  • The win moved the Hounds to 36-30 in the all-time series against the Javelinas with a 20-12 home record
  • Eastern has won six of the last eight meetings between the programs

The Key Run
  • Facing a 13-7 deficit with 5:33 left in the opening quarter, McCants drained a three-point shot and followed with a short jumper
  • Those five points sparked a 17-2 Greyhound run, which was capped by layups from Dasia Johnson and Kaylee Edgemon
  • After a trade of baskets, the Javelinas put together a 10-0 run capped by a three-point play from Antoinette Shrepee to take a 34-31 lead with 4:33 left in the third quarter
  • The teams went back and forth in the fourth quarter with the Javelinas forcing overtime on an Angelica Wilson jumper with 11 seconds left
  • The Hounds never trailed in overtime and claimed a lead they would not relinquish when McCants scored 1:14 into the period.

  • The lead changed hands 11 times during the contest with 11 tie scores
  • ENMU held a slim 51-48 edge in rebounding
  • The Hounds allowed just two three-point baskets for the game
  • Edgemon scored 13 points, grabbed seven rebounds and dished out three assists
