OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The Eastern New Mexico men's basketball team saw their four game win streak snapped on Saturday afternoon at the hands of Oklahoma Christian on the road.
The 72-62 defeat moves the Hounds record to 5-5 on the year and will wrap up the non-conference schedule for Eastern New Mexico for the season. Despite briefly taking the lead on an
Isaiah Murphy dunk at the 10:19 mark of the second half, the Hounds lost control of the ballgame down the stretch, getting outscored 17-6 throughout the final five minutes.
Junior
Darius Sawyer continued his solid play throughout the Greyhound's recent quality stretch of play, going 3-for-6 from the field and knocking down 9-of-11 attempts from the free throw line in route to 15 points. The Hounds struggled throughout the afternoon from the field, converting on just 17-of-52 (32.7 percent) shots from the field, but consistently found themselves at the free throw line, earning 22 trips to the free throw line.
Eastern made 18-of-22 attempts from the line, but couldn't hit the shots necessary down the stretch to keep themselves in the contest. Senior
Nick Brown had 12 points to pose as one of three Hounds in double figures along with Sawyer and Murphy, who finished with 10 points.
The key factor in the contest along with the poor shooting from Eastern down the stretch proved to be the rebounding battle underneath, as the Eagles dominated the paint with 47 rebounds compared to the Hound's 26.
Eastern wraps up their non-conference schedule with a record of 3-5, and will now look to return to Lone Star Conference play next weekend with road contests against Western New Mexico and UT-Permian Basin.
